Carey Young

Carey Young’s artistic work employs a wide range of media, including video, photography, performance, digital and telephonic media. She often uses found tools, language and training processes from the worlds of the multinational corporation and global law firm and alters them within an artistic context, exploring notions of performativity, autonomy, intimacy and dissent.

She has exhibited widely, including solo shows at  Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (2009), The Power Plant, Toronto (2009), Thomas Dane Gallery Project Space, London (2008), Paula Cooper Gallery, New York (2007 and 2005), Henry Moore Institute, Leeds (2004) and John Hansard Gallery, Southampton & tour (2001-2).

Her work has appeared in numerous group shows including: A Short History of Performance Part II, Whitechapel Gallery, London (2003); Gesellschaftsbilder/ Images of Society,  Kunstmuseum Thun, (2003), British Art Show 6, BALTIC, Newcastle & tour (2005–6); How to Improve the World, Hayward Gallery, London (2006), Moscow Biennale 2 (2007), Business as Usual, Museum of Contemporary Art, Detroit (2008), Soft Manipulations, Casino Luxembourg (2008), and the performance series Hey Hey Glossolalia, curated by Creative Time, staged in New York (2008). Carey Young is represented by Paula Cooper Gallery, New York.
