Clare Butcher ist Lehrerin, Kuratorin und Autorin.
Zur Zeit unterrichtet sie an der Gerrit Rietveld Akademie und am Piet Zwart Institut. Daneben ist sie auch Mitglied der "School of Missing Studies" am Sandberg Institut.
Clare Butcher schloss 2009 das "de Appel Curatorial Programme" ab. Zuvor arbeitete sie als Gastkuratorin am Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. Sie war Mitherausgeberin und Mitorganisatorin des "Autonomie-Projekts" (http://theautonomyproject.org) und initiierte auch das "Annex Residency-Programme" mit der Südafrikanischen Nationalgalerie.
Sie absolvierte ihr MFA in "Curating the Archive" an der Universität von Kapstadt im Jahr 2012.

Title: Disappearing canapé - #horsd'oeurvention
Description: According to Scottish comedian Danny Bhoy, "canapés are counterproductive". In the midst of a professional gathering - the primary point of which is to observe social graces and appear engaged in the conversation - haunting trays of passing finger food are a constant distraction. A call to our less professional intentions. And as the "hors d'oeuvres" (literally meaning "apart from the main work") skirt the margins of our awareness, we each become part of an awkward choreography.
