Philippe Pirotte

Philippe Pirotte (*1972 in Belgium) is an art historian, art critic and curator. He assumed the position of artistic director at Kunsthalle Bern in 2005. From 1996 until 2001 he worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Art History of the University of Gent, Belgium. In this function he organised several colloquia together with partners. Philippe Pirotte has contributed to art magazines like Tema Celeste, Kunst-Nu, Afterall and Nka. Journal of Contemporary African Art. He has also published essays and texts in various books and catalogues, for example in the publications The State of Things: Brussels/Beijing, BOZAR, Brussels, 2009, Zhang Enli, Hauser & Wirth, London, 2009 and the catalogue accompanying Luc Tuymans contribution to the Venice Biennial in 2001. Philippe Pirotte is one of the founders of the organisation objectif_ exhibitions in Antwerp (1999). As a guest curator he organized for example Involved at Shanghart, Shanghai, 2008; United Technologies at Lismore Castle, Ireland, 2009 and A Fantasy for Allan Kaprow at CIC, Contemporary Image Collective, Cairo, Egypt, 2009.
