Raphael Gygax


Raphael Gygax (*1980) studied Art History, Film and Drama Studies at the universities of Berne and Zurich, and is curator at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich. He is currently a PhD candidate.
Previously curated exhibitions include Teresa Margolles (2014), Stephen G. Rhodes (2013), Alex Bag (2011), Une Idée, une Forme, un Être – Poésie/Politique du corporel (2010), Deterioration, They Said (2009), Christoph Schlingensief (2007), Spartacus Chetwynd (2007), and Cory Arcangel (2005). In 2008, together with writer Sibylle Berg, he curated the theater/art project "Of those who will survive" at the Schauspielhaus Zürich.
In addition he is a freelance curator, organizing exhibitions in Zurich, Paris, London and New York. Regularly he assumed teaching positions, including at the HEAD – haute école d‘art et de design genève, University of the Arts, Zurich or Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich. He’s on the advisory board of the Postgraduate Programme in Curating of the University of the Arts, Zurich.
He writes regularly for several art magazines, such as frieze & d/e. From 2013-15 Curatorial advisor for frieze frame & focus.
