Beate Söntgen

Born 1963. Professor of Art History at the Leuphana-University Lüneburg. Before Professor of Art History at the Ruhr-Universiy of Bochum and Laurenz-Professor for Contemporary Art at the University of Basel, CH.

PHD in 1996 at the FU in Berlin on Wilhelm Leibls Realism (Fink Verlag 2000).

Postdoc Scholarship at the Graduate School ‘Representation –Rhetoric- Knowledge’ at the European-University Viadrina in Frankfurt at the Oder.

Academic Assistant at the Institute of History of Art at the HBK Braunschweig. 

1996-2002 Freelancer at the Feuilleton of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Co-Curator of “Matisse. Figure-Colour-Space” (K20, Düsseldorf) |.

Member of  “Netzwerk Ornament”, University of Basel (eikones) and of “Exzellenzcluster Kulturelle Poetologie des Auftretens”, University of Konstanz.
