Foundation Sommerakademie im Zentrum Paul Klee

The Sommerakademie im Zentrum Paul Klee was founded in Bern 2006, as an institution that was to be funded by the Cantonal Bank of Bern over a period of eleven years.

Its objective layed in contemplating latter-day production and reflection within the field of contemporary art, and in offering the best possible setting for such an endeavor. Thus from 2006 onwards, a group of twelve international Fellows, both artists and curators, up to 35 years of age, partaked in the Sommerakademie im Zentrum Paul Klee. Each year, a different guest curator shaped the ten-day academy and suggested a theme of his or her choice. Speakers were invited to intensify the theoretical discourse and exchange, sometimes by means of screenings or performances.

The Sommerakademie im Zentrum Paul Klee bids you farewell, thanking all of those who have carried and defined it over the years, and all the audiences who have shown so much interest. Our thanks also goes to the 150 international nominators all over the world, to their many faithful alumni, as well as to our main partners, the Bernese Cantonal Bank BEKB and the Zentrum Paul Klee as well as the Univesity of the Arts Bern, the Kunsthalle Bern, the Kunstmuseum Bern, the Progr and the Robert Walser-Zentrum
